Kinfolk Marketplace

Our Story

A community-rooted boutique built on culture, sustainability, and the belief that local entrepreneurship changes everything.

“We believe in the power of fashion to bridge cultures, support sustainability, and empower rising entrepreneurs.”

— Kinfolk Marketplace

How We Got Here

Born on Roosevelt Road

Kinfolk Marketplace opened its doors in November 2024at 2100 Roosevelt Road in Broadview, Illinois — a storied corridor that has long connected Chicago's western suburbs. From day one, Kinfolk was built to be more than a boutique. It was designed to be a community anchor.

The path to opening wasn't taken alone. Founder Nikki Smart received entrepreneurship support through the Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago — giving Kinfolk the business foundation it needed to launch with intention and longevity.

The Village of Broadview recognized Kinfolk's potential for impact early. The store received formal municipal approval on October 7, 2024, by a unanimous 4-0 vote. Just weeks later, the Village officially featured Kinfolk Marketplace in its November 2024 community newsletter — a signal that this was exactly the kind of business Broadview wanted on Roosevelt Road.

Today, Kinfolk Marketplace is a collective consignment boutique where 20+ independent vendors rent booth space to sell pre-loved fashion, handmade goods, vintage finds, and curated lifestyle products. Vendors keep 65% of every sale. The inventory changes constantly. And the community keeps growing.

What We Stand For

Our Four Pillars

Cultural Heritage

Curated ethnic and vintage pieces that tell stories of the past — celebrating the craft, history, and identity woven into every garment and object.

Sustainability

Secondhand, resale, and eco-conscious consumption at its finest. Every purchase at Kinfolk extends the life of something beautiful and keeps it out of a landfill.

Entrepreneurship Platform

A launchpad for emerging sellers and small businesses. Kinfolk gives independent vendors the infrastructure, foot traffic, and community they need to grow.

Community Hub

More than a store — a gathering place for the Broadview community. From pop-up markets to clothing swaps, Kinfolk is where neighbors come together.
